The above specialty plates benefit children causes, sharing some common language and graphics. California‘s kid plate features a poppy field, and the handprints are one four options registrants can choose from (the others are heart, star, and + sign). Indiana transitioned to flat plates within a decade after their 1996 kids plate, then modified the plate’s appearance. North Carolina and Ohio modified their general issue base plates, but the others all went with original designs.
Alabama has issued multiple versions of a “Helping Schools” plate while also highlighting educators and retired educators. Arkansas and Georgia have also had different incarnations of education plates – Arkansas on original designs and Georgia on passenger bases. Indiana chose Garfield as an ambassador for its education plate, and Virginia‘s “Education Begins at Home” plate is the first devoted to homeschooling.
Children’s hospitals and children’s health issues have popped up more and more on the roads. Kentucky‘s “A Lifetime of Oral Health” plate, though, is definitely unique.
Kid-themed specialties cover a wide range of categories. Arizona promotes “Good Character” traits, Connecticut kid safety, Iowa a school transportation fund (E6491), Mississippi the Boy Scouts, Montana youth hockey, and New Mexico adoption, while the others in the gallery above have a more general beneficiary. (Note that some of the above may contribute to very similar organizations in the first category; however, they don’t contain the same slogans or references as those plates.)
